Flygbussarna: from the airport to the city centre of Stockholm

Flygbussarna are an easy way to get from the airport to the city centre.

Whether you arrive at Arlanda, Bromma or Skavsta (Stockholm’s 3 airports), the easiest and most affordable way to get from the airport into central Stockholm is by airport buses or Flygbussarna.

Download the Flygbussarna app and buy your tickets in advance. This is the cheapest option. You can then simply board the bus and show the app to the driver or scan it yourself at the machine in the bus. Both at the airport and in the station you will also find a payment terminal where the instructions are in both Swedish and English, just like in the app.

Payment is only possible by card, as in many places in Sweden. Purchase your tickets at the vending machine as it is not possible to buy tickets at the driver anyway. My experience is that the drivers at Bromma do not always (want to) speak English fluently. Mostly domestic flights arrive at Bromma.

The buses run at regular intervals and on board you can follow information about the next stop and the estimated time of arrival on the screens. The driver will also keep you informed. It is compulsory to wear a seat belt on the bus. There is WiFi on board, but personally I just put it on 4G because this is just a bit smoother. I think Flygbussarna is the ideal way to travel from the airport to central Stockholm.

From Bromma to Stockholm Centralen

In Bromma they are fully renewing the airport and the surrounding area. Bromma is a small airport so you can’t get lost. Follow the sign to ‘Utgång’ and you will soon see the Flygbussarna stop, within walking distance of the arrivals hall. You can be at Stockholm Central Station in just 20 minutes.

From Arlanda to central Stockholm

There will be a separate article with all the options to get from Arlanda, the largest airport in Stockholm to the center of the city, but the Flygbussarna are also recommended here. It is not the fastest option, but in terms of price it is not too bad.

In Arlanda you have to pay attention to what bus you should take. Usually there is a steward at the bus stop who will be happy to help you.

From Skavsta to Stockholm

Low-cost airline Ryanair flies to Skavsta, about 100 km south of Stockholm. Flygbussarna takes more than one and a half hours.
Update: as of November 2021, Ryanair will move all its activities to Arlanda.

From Stockholm Centralen to the airport

You can also easily travel to Stockholm airports with Flygbussarna. You will find the bus terminal in the central station, Cityterminalen. You are supposed to wait inside. The doors will not open until the bus arrives. It is a double door and the second door will not open until the first door has closed behind you.

If you’re flying from Bromma, you should be present only 1 hour in advance. For a flight at 8 pm I dare to take the 6:40 pm bus. I take the risk that we get stuck in traffic and I miss my flight. My experience is that the late flight to Brussels has delays regularly.

If you go to the bus terminal via Kungsgatan, you can see where you need to be in the photo below. But you have to go through Cityterminalen.
