Update June 2020: unfortunately Bakverket is closed. If something new opens at Bondegatan 59, I’ll try to visit it asap.
A few years ago, Dagens Nyheter elected Bakverket as the best breakfast spot in Stockholm. After hearing that you could have breakfast all day at Bakverket, my curiosity was awakened. I was staying at Motel L and had not booked any breakfast at the hotel, with one main reason: to discover breakfast spots in Stockholm and mainly to visit addresses like Bakverket!
Ontbijt, all day long
I think I walked in at Bakverket around 11am, talking about a late breakfast. To order you go to the counter. The menu is written on a blackboard in Swedish. I did not speak any Swedish back then and so chose the big breakfast. As you can see in the picture, that was literally a big breakfast! I got a fresh juice, a hot drink, oatmeal, a bowl of yoghurt, a bowl of lettuce, a bowl of butter, a delicious and freshly baked piece of baguette and cheese and ham. I paid about 12 euros. My breakfast was my lunch at the same time.
In addition to the extensive choice for breakfast, Bakverket is also a perfect place to fika and have lunch. Everything is prepared with much love and once you enter Bakverket the smell of freshly baked bread is welcoming you. I was there on a weekday in March and it was quite quiet but on weekends they often queue. During the summer months you can also take a seat on Bakverket’s terrace.
SoFo
Bakverket is in SoFo, the hippest area of the trendy neighborhood Södermalm. SoFo stands for the neighborhood south of Folkungagatan. The neighborhood is getting very popular and thus more tourists exploring the area. Bakverket is a very popular place among the locals who come to drink coffee, have breakfast, brunch or lunch, read the newspaper, etc. After breakfast at Bakverket, it is well worth a visit to the unique shops in the surrounding streets.
